Title: Misty
justine - July 5, 2008 03:29 PM (GMT)
I need to shave Misty again. She was doing quite well with her summer coat without it getting matted but it's getting knotty now. I hate doing it.

I don't, she won't let me. I rescued her 2 years ago from people who couldn't look after her anymore. She was 10 years old when we got her and I don't think she had ever been groomed much in all that time. She was such an angry cat. We couldn't touch her without her viciously attacking us. She still won't let us groom her although in most other ways she is friendly and loving.
We had her shaved at the vet the first time. It cost £94. So now we do it ourselves. It is a very hard and stressful thing to do when she is so vicious but it's better doing that once every so often than going through it every few days trying to groom her.

£94 :omg: !! Grooming cats that dont want to be groomed is no fun! bless her, its not nice stressing them out but you know its for their own good, just a shame they dont see it that way lol :)

Most cats don't like it unless they have been use to it from a young age. Don't know what to suggest to help  My friend has a Birman who every so often gets a really matted tummy then it all drops out.

I know, it's horrendous. They had to give her a GA to do it because she was so vicious.

Blimey, bless her :( you do her bit by bit dont you?

My other persian has always been used to being groomed. He loves it. He comes running if he sees the comb. He doesn't like his belly done though.

Oh blimey, I remember when you done it last time - don't envy you. good luck.
Bunnysnug - July 5, 2008 06:26 PM (GMT)
Why don't you try & get one of those cat muzzles? Sounds a bit mean i know but it might save some teeth marks?
justine - July 5, 2008 06:34 PM (GMT)
I didn't know you could get cat muzzles. Do they do gloves too?
Ali - July 5, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
Best of luck get some riggers gloves
Kim - July 5, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
You could get gloves too OR you could wear a space suit haha no claw or tooth is gonna get through that lol
justine - July 5, 2008 06:44 PM (GMT)
 We have rigger gloves but they do have thin parts to them, which lets in claws. Have you ever tried holding clippers with rigger gloves on? haha
Kim - July 5, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
No, i have tried with gauntlets and thats hard! lol
lauren - July 5, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Oh gosh! Sounds like a nightmare! I'd try a muzzle, and some thick gloves! ... or... get Dave to do it haha

Vickie - July 10, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
Think a coat of armour would be more appropriate haha How did you get on?
justine - July 10, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
 She's not happy. I managed to do most of her back haha . Her fur is so thick, it takes time to fight my way down to the skin, then I shave from there.
After a while she started biting Dave so we'll have another go tomorrow.
