Description: Help!

Is there any way that there could be any problems if you breed and young male(12 weeks old) with a female that's over a year old? What I mean is there anything that could be wrong with the babies if the father is young? :( I don't what anything to be wrong with the babies? I couldn't do that to an animal! We let our 12 week old Chester play with our female 1 year old Lop Butter and sometime Chester get a little frisky if you know what I mean and I don't want an unplaned birth if there could be something wrong with the babies! We are going to breed them to together anyways once he's old enogh anyways so I'm not to worried I just don't want any problems!

I'm not sure Nickiey. I do know that there are many risks if the female is really young but I have no idea about males. I would think though, that there is a good chance your female is already pregnant if Chester has been frisky with her. It only takes a few seconds for the deed to be done.

I was under the impression that males are not sexually mature until they are around 5 months old.
I'm not sure what is mean by 'sexually mature' in rabbits specifically. It might mean that the sperm are not mature enough to produce young, may only produce a few thatn an older male, or that they are not mature enough to produce healthy young.
I know that if male dogs mate too young they can have deformed pups, small pups or pups with poor health.
Personally, I would not mate a male or female rabbit under 6 months. That way there would be less chance of any problems with the kits. I'd feel awful if I had to put one to sleep because it had poor quality of life. When my first litter of Nethie kits were born and we had a 'peanut' that died, I felt dreadful because I knew that had happened as a direct result of me deciding to breed them. I know it wasn't because they were too young, (they were 7 months old) and that it's just one of those things that can happen with Nethies but, still, it was awful. :cry1:
Of course, the decision is totally yours, it's just my opinion.

I have read many times that a female has got pregnant at about 12 weeks from a male of the same age.
Some have been bought from a pet shop as a bonded pair of brother/sister at about 7 weeks and a few weeks later she is pregnant :(
So males are able to reproduce very early!

Update They didn't get anywhere that night so I think that I'll just have to wait till he gets a little big I think he's just to small in size and cant figure out what to do to hold he down. Plus she wouldn't push her tail up to help him out So They just ran around and he'd try ever once and awhile but Nothing. So I left them together in his cage in our living room all night and about 3:00am They began to fight or I think they were and I had to run out and put her back into her outdoor cage! I knew I'd be out doing something with rabbits in the early morning
