Title: Our new addition!!
PinkBunny - December 8, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
We have adopted a Staffy pup. :bunhug: Her name is Lara and she is about 16 weeks old. She first belonged to the family of one of my minded children.
After a few weeks of her weeing and pooping around the house while everyone was out for 9 hrs a day they decided they didn't want her. :cry1:
I spent a few days trying to talk Martin into letting her come to live with us but he really wasn;t keen and had his sensible head on (which doesn't happen often)haha .
Then on Thursday she started being sick, she brought up every meal and drink on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I went over to their house on Sunday morning to drop off one of the children's birthday presents and the Mother told me how poorly the pup was. She was like a bag of bones, really lethargic and I could tell she was really poorly. I phoned Martin and managed to get him to agree and we took her home. They had no intention of taking her to the vet. I popped into a local petshop where I know there is an Animal Care student working there and she advised me to feed her just fish and syringe some water. So we did that and she kept the fish down at lunch time, she also ate some at tea time and kept that down too. By midnight last night she was getting out of her bed and coming to us for cuddles. This morning she seemed much better but I still took her to the vets. The vet thought maybe she has been poisoned with something. I rang her old owner and she said that she ate some chocolate on Wednesday night and that she had been giving her cow's milk to help to sette her tummy!!!. The vet thinks it's highly likely that the chocolate caused her to be so poorly and of course the milk didn't help either. She gave us some medication to help to stop her being sick and some advise on what to feed her for the next few days. So she's have brown rice, chicken, scrambled egg and fish. She's eating well and keeping it down and now jumping about like a puppy should! She's not pooped yet but then there hasn;t been much to come out anyway and she's weeing normally.
Just keeping my fingers crossed that there's no lasting damage.
Lottie isn't sure what to make of our new friend and she's not offering to share her bed just yet hehe
Po is rather disgusted and hissed at her hehe
I'm sure they will all be friends soon :bounce:
So there you go, I ended up nursing my new pup and couldn't make it the the Fundraiser (Kayla was not impressed!!). Hopefully we can pop in some other time, we were so looking forward to it.

She is well on the road to recovery, she's bouncing around like a nutter this morning. :bounce:
She is a real wuss though, when I put her out for a wee she cries at the back door straight away. Will have to get Lottie to have a word, hehe

Thanks for asking Sarah. She is doing great now. She's lively little thing, she loves to chase her imaginary friend around the living room and loves all her toys - which is something Lottie never bothered with. She's doing great with her house training and now goes to the back door and cries til we let her out. She's been dry the last two nights too. She is a funny madam though, she hates water, even puddles!! There's always a big one by our back step and she manoeuvres around the door to avoid stepping in it. hehe She is really greedy so we have to watch she doesn't get Lotties or the cat's food. She needs to be reminded that she mustn't chew shoes now and again and she's still getting used to the fact we don't let dogs on the furmiture. She also jumps up a lot which, as a childminder looking after other children, I have to stop her. It must be confusing for her because the old family encouraged her to do so many things that she can't in our house, they teased her and encouraged her to bite and lick them, jump up etc, but she's getting used to our rules slowly.

She won't take long to get used to the new rules. Once she learns, she will forget all of the other stuff she was taught in her previous home.
