Title: Need to take one of my 3 to the vet...

Vikki - February 1, 2009 12:43 AM (GMT)
Hi I'm looking for some advice...

Katie (one of my bonded 3) needs to go to the vet. she's shaking her head and something's obviously irritating her - maybe some hay got in there (she has big ears - its happened before and cleared up quickly with the drops the vet prescribed and I give her).

Anyway, this is the first time I've taken one since all 3 were bonded. Do I take all 3 in the carrier or just her? I dont want to upset the bond, and have read that if she came back smelling of 'vet' the other two might not accept her back readily.

Writing this I've probably answered my own question and should take them all. I just feel a bit foolish taking all 3 if its not necessary. Not only that the other 2 really dont like going in the car.

Any thoughts?

I think it is best if you take all 3. I'm sure they will feel ok in the car if they have each other to snuggle up to.

Hope Katies ear is ok. :bunhug:

Thanks Justine I shall do that.

I've sat for ages tonight just rubbing her ears to try and help her 'itch'.

I'm not classing it as an emergency, she's fine in herself, so will take her on monday morning, but I do feel sorry I cant do more for her until then.

Nose rubs to Katie for a speedy recovery and yes, all 3 together I'm afraid.

I'm taking all 3 this afternoon - the vets is only about 10 minutes away but there's a lot of snow here for me to get there in my car.

If only I had one of these I could walk!!!!

Hi, I hope Katies is ok today. How did she get on at the vet?

Not good (or not as easy as i thought)

i took all three which was fine (after the 20 minutes it took me to get all 3 in a carrier. I'm still sure a pushchair wouldve been easier!)

Katie is just so big and strong that its impossible for the vet to look down her ear. To be fair to the vet she tried for 20 minutes, could see down one ear fine, but looked down the other ear, thought she could see something down there, but it must be so sore for katie she just wouldnt hold still. You cant hold her down even if you wanted to!

So in the end the vet decided, rather than cause her more stress, to take her in on thursday and anesthetise her to get a proper look at whats going on. While she's there I'll get the vet to give her a full MOT, nails etc so i'm kinda making myself feel better about letting it happen by thinking she'll feel better for it. Katie and Casper are also going along for the ride!

Oh and btw (vickie) there was one of 'my' every bunny needs some bunny posters up in the waiting room!

Ah bless her! Well by the sounds of it, it will be best for her to go back on Thursday. At least when she is asleep the vet can have a proper look her ear and then Katie will be better. Let me know how she gets on. :bunhug:

Fought my way through the snow this morning and everything went perfectly.

They gave katie a full looking over and declared her to be fit and healthy - they gave her as little anaesthetic as possible to be able to look at what they wanted, but couldnt find anything wrong. They treated her for mites in case it was that from the hay, but couldnt see any evidence.

But they all went, they all had MOT's and manicures and all were declared fit and healthy

Katie's still a bit groggy, but managed to eat since getting home (as usual)

I knew she was getting big, but turns out she's now 7.6kg. The carrier is bloomin heavy with the other 2 in it too!

Big relief it's over with. Give them all a nose rub for me, Katie can have an extra one for being so brave.

Glad to hear the posters are getting around. Thought about making myself a dress out of them and parading down the High Street hehe
