Title: Introducing Summer

McBunny - February 2, 2009 09:39 AM (GMT)
Summer (previously called Flora) came round yesterday to see if she would bond with Giles. I saw her on the Fife Rabbit Rescue site, but as Kareen is full at the moment, she hadn't made it into the rescue.

Kareen and Summer's old owners Jenna and Ewan all came round to my house (my house is somewhere in the middle so it was easiest). Kareen "speed bonds" rabbits finding the quick approach far more effective. So she put them both in a little carry box and let them get on with it. Giles humped her a bit, but generally they just lay in the box.

We then let them out in the kitchen and they had an explore and seemed fine. Once they moved to the shed they seemed quite happy. A wee bit more humping but nothing bad. There was a bit of fur pulling last night, but both are settled today.

As you can see from the pictures Flora is a bit overweight. She also has cateracts in both her eyes, so her vision is restricted. This is said to have been caused by EC. One of her hind legs is also a bit out of shape  . We are visitng my vet today and the previous owners vet sounded awful.

Isn't she gorgeous though

She is gorgeous, they both are! :bunhug: :bunhug:

Speed bonding............i like it! How long do you keep them in the carrier for before you let them out?

Thanks :)

They were in the carrier for about 10 mins. He Giles humped Summer a bit then when they settled we let them out. Using a carrier that opens at the top is best, quick access if it goes wrong ;) . It just stops the pussyfooting about ignoring each other. You get the reaction right away meaning its easier to tell if it will work or not.

Been to the vet and Summer's sore eyes are not cateracts. It seems she has active ulcers under the eye. She is totally blind in her right eye and almost blind in her left. As a result she will need her right eye removed at some point, and possibly her left too :( . Such a shame :(
