Title: Candy

I was unsure which thread to post this.
Candy is my Mom's 12 yr old West Highland Terrier.
A few months ago Mom noticed a lump on her throat and took her to the vets. They thought it was likely to be a tumour but due to the already considerable size they advised that while Candy was healthy and enjoying life that it was best not to mess with her as it was likely that if it was a cancer that it had already gone beyond the chance of removal. Mom has taken her for a check up regularly since then. Candy has continued to lose weight even though Mom has increased her food but she's seemed to be happy and without pain. Always happily wagging her tail when we visit and playing with Mom's ducks!
Today Mom noticed her eye had gone a funny colour and that she was behaving oddly. She took her back to the vets who said that it was Thyroid cancer, that she had gone blind in one eye and was also likely to be in some pain now. Mom texted me to let me know that she will be taking her to be put to sleep tomorrow at the vet's advice, she couldn't even speak on the phone becasue she was too upset.
Of course the news has really upset me, Kallum, my 3 yr old, came and sat on my lap and gave me a big hug. He wanted to know who had told me off! Bless him.
So now I feel awful I can't be there for my Mom and Candy tomorrow (she lives in Ashborne near Uttoxeter). And I won;t be able to say goodbye. I know what she must be going through. I can't describe how I felt when we lost Lala, our cat.
The really odd thing is that my Mother in Law called me on Tuesday to say her sister's dog, Bella, (she had been dog sitting for her) had been bleeding and had to have an emergency hysterectomy. Then yesterday the neighbour's dog, Jade, started to have fits and I was consoling my neighbour who was of course very upset. Then Candy today. It really has come in threes this time, Fingers crossed that Bella and Jade are ok.
Goodnight and God bless you Candy, thinking of you, run free at the bridge little lady x x

Thankyou for your kind words.
Mom took Candy this morning, she said she fell asleep very quickly in her arms. It must have been awful, she was so very upset when I spoke to her today.
She will be cremated and then Mom can keep her ashes at home.
