Title: Poor Tom Cat

PinkBunny - March 19, 2009 09:27 PM (GMT)
I took the kids to school this morning and as I was putting Kallum back in the car a poor little cat was run over by a car, driving quite fast past the school. The poor thing went under the wheels and the driver slowed down but then just drove off. Other parents screamed and I just ran over to him and scooped him up in my arms. He was still alive but obviously in excruciating pain. His one eyeball had popped out and he had no skin left on one leg. Blood poured from his mouth like a tap. One Mum knocked on someone's door and got a towel, we wrapped him and two other Mom's came with me to take him to the Vets. I was shaking so much I don't know how I managed to drive there. The vet looked at him straight away but he was so very badly injured and he had to be put to sleep. All three of us sobbed, it was so sad. :cry1:

One of the Mom's has offered to take him home if his owner doesn't claim him so that he can be buried. Noone near the school knew who he belonged to. He wasn't wearing a collar and he wasn't chipped but the vet said he was well fed.

It's so sad that his owner doesn't even know what has happened to him.

Good night little puss, run free at the bridge

The odd thing is that I'm never normally around at that time as I usually have to drop minded children at a different school, but they are on holiday this week. I just wonder whether anyone would have helped him if I hadn't been there. I had lots of parents approach me on the afternoon and say they couldn't have done it. But I didn't even think, I just ran after him and to be honest I didn't even look to see if there was a car coming so I could have easily been hit by a car too.

I'm just relieved he's not in pain now, it was so awful to watch him suffer, even though it was only for a very short time.

I've found myself picturing his little face in my mind throughout the day and I've shed a few tears. He was an entiire tom cat and he wet in my car so I can smell him every time I get in too, even though I've cleaned it.

It's funny how an animal you didn't even know or love can affect you in this way, I couldn't work in a vets for sure

What a very kind thing you did, many people would not have done what you did. You should be proud of yourself for doing such a kind deed.

I am sorry there was not a happy ending.

Run free puss puss. x x
