Title: Swine Flu

LauraBunny - April 30, 2009 01:40 PM (GMT)
Obviously everyone has heard about this....It's so awful that people are dying from this strain of flu.
A massive part of me (as usual with the media...) thinks they have just hyped it up, though another part of me thinks that because the people who are dying aren't like the majority that die from flu in the winter (elderly and weak) but under 45s (caught a bit of the news on the bbc last night) that it really is something to worry about.
Too much information around for it to filter into my brain properly I think  Plus with loads of conflicting opinions/reports I really don't have much clue what to make of it all....kind of with all news. Though it's mostly all bad so I'd rather not watch it. (Not in an ignorant way)
Ok, that's me done, sorry if it didn't make sense...current affairs isn't my strongest point :)

ps. what happened with bird flu a few years ago?

Part of me thinks the media scare everybody but i'm still worried about it  Remember years ago it was SARS virus or whatever it was called then bird flu then a flesh eating bug

I do wonder how long this has been brewing you know, cos a while ago, in various magazines, there were adverts advising people what to do when sneezing etc ( into tissue, throwing it, disinfecting things)!!! Makes you think !!!

I'm not unduly worried ( at the moment)! I suppose if it reaches a category 6, then maybe it'll stop and make me think !!!! Here's hoping it doesn't get to that stage. Last I hear, there are 3 more confirmed cases in the UK bringing the total to 8 !

If that guy who caught it from another human is confirmed as having swine flu does that make it category 6? Hope it doesn't. I'm off on holiday...in September!!!! hehe

I was sat next to a flight attendant at a friends on Wednesday evening - she flew to Cancun 2 weeks ago. The airline she works for (can't remember which one now) is doing a rescue flight next week to get the Brits out.

We have 4 schools closed now in Birmingham due to Swine Flu.

And..........Get this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both my oldest kids told me there hasn;t been soap in the boys toilets in the Junior school since they started in September and the girls toilets haven;t had any before Christmas.

I went into school and blew my top on Thursday. The Dep Head was clearly surprised at what I was saying and said she had no idea there was no soap. Apparently the old Head Teacher who left at Christmas told the cleaners to take the soap out because the kids messed with it.

Can you get your breath. I have given school 1 week to sort out soap dispensers and get the had dryers working (because at the moment they don't!) before I take it further, I'm thinking a big spread on the front of The Birmingham Evening Mail should make them take notice. They have put bars of soap in for now.

1,100 confirmed cases in the UK now!!

My hubby's cousin is a children's nurse. She has been nursing a terminally ill little boy with swine flu in Birmingham. So sad
