Title: bonding/re bonding after vets

bunny mummy - May 10, 2009 08:37 PM (GMT)
How do I get Rosie to be friends with Jimmy again???? Since her return from the vet she has been chasing and trying to bite her. I tried to put them in earlier ( they sleep in the conservatory) but I had to let them back out as Jimmy was absolutely terrified. PLEASE HELP!!!!

This is a question for the Bonding Queen!

Hope they make friends soon x x

Reduce the space Jill. Try and put them in a pet carrier and take them for a drive round the block, once back home keep them in a reduced space if you can. Do you have an indoor cage at all as less space = less space to chase in.

If you have any questions, give us a shout.

I have lent my car to my brother as his is in the garage, but he is bringing it back tomorrow,I dont have a inside cage. Do you think that by letting them back out I have made the wrong decision? It's just I didnt want Jimmy to get scared in the conservatory with Rosie chasing her. Should I leave them out for tonight and take them for a drive tomorrow when I get my car back? and then put them in the conservatory for a while? then let them out in the garden?

Also, should I put them both in the one large carrier that I use for Rosie ?

Vickie - May 10, 2009 09:47 PM (GMT)
You could try returning them to the hutch, they may well settle. You could put them in a carrier together for a short whilst before returning them.

I will try and put them in the hutch tonight then, I forgot about that in the panic! Should I let them out if rosie starts biting jimmy again?

Or did you mean tomorrow after I have taken them for a drive? I am so sorry vickie, its just I really dont know what to do for the best, am at a total loss and Rosie is still trying to bite Jimmy.

:hello: I've replied to your pm Jill

Just read your recent posts, as an after thought, if the nipping and biting continues, separate them for this evening and attempt a rebond, firstly using the carrier/car journey and then the reduced space.

Ok thanks ( disregard my pm vickie) I just replied to the one you sent me.

Will do that then, oh thank you so much vickie, I really mean that. Thank you.

Thanks again. x x

Rosie had an overnight stay at the vets last week, it wasn't possible for Jimmy to stay with her.

bunny mummy - May 13, 2009 10:32 AM (GMT)
I usually do take both rosie and jimmy to the vets together, but rosie had to stay over night on the friday and saturday night due to g i stasis. It would have been unfair on Jimmy for her to stay at the vets all that time with Rosie. Had Rosie not improved by the sunday I was going to take Jimmy up ( vet and rosies nurse advised this) so that they could get re -aquinted.

Thankfully Rosie was able to come home and thanks to Vickies expert advice I was able to get rosie to bond again with jimmy.

The vet and rosie's nurse said that it is generally the rabbit left at home who becomes territorial when the other is away for any length of time, however, jimmy is a lovely placid little bunny - where as rosie has been moved from pillar to post, the poor bunny and she does have behavioural issues sometimes.
