Title: baytril
bunny mummy - June 3, 2009 09:22 PM (GMT)
I have knackered in my back and i cant bend down to give them their baytril as both have snuffles. i tried jimmy on a different one, but it didnt go down too well.
i live alone now as split up with my other half and as every one i know works i am really struggling to give them the baytril twice a day.
i called the vet yesterday to see if they would let me buy the baytril and inject them at home ( it works out at nearly 9 quid a shot) but i dont want the snuffles to get any worse. they said no, i will have to drive them to the vets every day for a vet to inject them.
well i think that is taking the michael as i think that will be more stressful for them. does snuffles get worse really, really quickly or will they be ok for a week or two doing what i am doing until, hopefully my back starts getting better.

Oh dear, hope your back gets better soon. Can you put it on something very tasty? I know it runs off the greens when i did it before to one of mine.
Kim - June 3, 2009 09:32 PM (GMT)
Lynx took his in bread really well :)
bunny mummy - June 3, 2009 09:34 PM (GMT)
Thanks, its proper hurting as katie ( my daughter) would say!!!I know it runs off the greens doesnt it. I have not tried them with bread. Brown or White or doesnt it matter?
Kim - June 3, 2009 09:36 PM (GMT)
I tried Lynx with white because thats all i had at the time but dont think it matters :)
bunny mummy - June 3, 2009 09:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks a lot. I will try them with that tomorrow.
Fingers crossed!
Vickie - June 3, 2009 09:42 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry to hear you are in pain Jill
It's not easy to administer baytril at the best of times. It the bread fails, try squirting into a piece of broccoli.
Hope you begin to pick up soon.
bunny mummy - June 4, 2009 11:24 AM (GMT)
thank you. work have been great, hopefully i can get back soon.
well, the bread didnt work and i have tried it on broccoli, all their fave foods and just about every plant in the garden and they aint having any of it! :cry3:
the thing is i think the vets are wanting me to take them both up every day for the money! as it is it will cost 2 x 25.00 quid tomorrow for the ' rabbit consultation fee' 2 x 9 quid for the baytril shots and if i have to take them up every day then it is 17.50 follow up appointment. plus the 2 x 9 quid for their baytril injections.
i dont want to take them up every day as i think that will be more stressful for them.
Vickie - June 4, 2009 02:26 PM (GMT)
Would it be worth asking the vet to "do a deal" with you in respect of the consultation fees?
PinkBunny - June 5, 2009 12:52 PM (GMT)
Those fees are extortionate!! :faint:
If they won't give you the baytril you are within your rights to ask for a prescription for it (unsure if they have to give it you though). You can use an online pet pharmacy then, good luck Jill
I was giving Flower her baytril on a shreddie (you know, those ones that are knitted by nana's) lol hehe hehe
bunny mummy - June 5, 2009 04:03 PM (GMT)
I was due to take them this afternoon, but I managed to rope in one of my mates who is off work til monday to help me. I am taking them on Monday now so I will see what they say.If they wont agree to somesort of deal ( as in not charging me for follow up appointment fees x 2!!! I will look on the internet, I didnt think of those online services.
I will also give shreddies a bash. Thanks.

I took Rosie and Jimmy to the vets this morning and the vet gave me it in injection form for 6 days ( she gave them their bayrtil injection at vet) and she said that she could not give me the baytril bottle and the sringes to fill she had to load the sringes and then add a dispensing label. But atleast I can inject them at home, I have to take them back next monday. So pleased as its been a right performance with me back as it is. :bounce:
Vickie - June 8, 2009 09:00 PM (GMT)
That's great news Jill.
How is your back?
bunny mummy - June 8, 2009 09:07 PM (GMT)
:bounce: It is I am really really happy about that Vickie. :bounce: OH the old back is still a bit of a problem to be honest, I am at the hospital ( finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) on Wednesday for an xray. I have been to the docs when it first started hurting alot ( i have a dodgy back anyway, but the pain killers i used to take did the job) but this is something else..
Vickie - June 8, 2009 09:17 PM (GMT)
Nowt worse than back ache
Good luck on Wednesday.
bunny mummy - June 8, 2009 10:07 PM (GMT)
Cheers mate. I am just sooooo pleased that I dont have to bother friends and family for help with the oral bayrtil performance..
PinkBunny - June 8, 2009 10:12 PM (GMT)
Glad the vet has seen some sense Jill. Less stress all round!
All the best for your hosp appt too
bunny mummy - June 8, 2009 10:24 PM (GMT)
Ah bless, thank you so very much. The vets I go to have opened another practise, and I only like to see 'my vet' the bunny vet. Thanks so much. Hope your new bun is settlin in well. I don't know if you have signed off, but I didn't think you deserved a hard time for re-homing one of your bunnies!
PinkBunny - June 9, 2009 06:31 AM (GMT)
Aww thanks Jill, it was a really tough decision but after seeing the lady's garden and Flip's new huge hutch and lovely long run I knew he would have a good home. They don't have children and so he will be their 'baby'. She does work but he will have full run of her very safe and secure garden when she gets home in the afternoon. She will be getting him neutered and then she'll be looking for a ladybun for him.
We al kissed him goodbye, when we left myself and Kayla were quite tearful :cry1: but I also felt really satisfied he'll be a healthy and happy bunny there. :bounce:
And of course I will always take him back if there is ever a problem.
bunny mummy - June 9, 2009 12:02 PM (GMT)
ah bless him, its sad when you have to say goodbye. but he sounds like he is in a great place and as long as he is happy thats whats important.
bunny mummy - June 10, 2009 09:49 PM (GMT)
I amaze my self at times, I harped on about getting sringes etc and I cant even do it!! I get my mum to come around every day to do it for me! I manage to lift the skin ( you all know what I mean) but I cant plunge it in!!! What a wuss!!
PinkBunny - June 10, 2009 10:07 PM (GMT)
I'd be very nervous about injecting buns, :poke:

I thought it would be easy, but I couldn't do it - thankfully my mum stepped in and does it for me. :bounce:

Took the little ladies to the vets this morning. Rosie is fine, no more injections for her! :bunhug: Jimmy is still not 100% so she has to have the injections for another 7 days. :(
PinkBunny - June 15, 2009 10:02 PM (GMT)
poor Jimmy :bunhug:
glad Rosie is better though :bounce:
Vickie - June 15, 2009 10:20 PM (GMT)
Good to hear Rosie is doing well. Extra nose rubs for Jimmy.
bunny mummy - July 12, 2009 10:32 PM (GMT)

Awwww Jill, are Rosie and Jim ok?
bunny mummy - July 16, 2009 04:30 PM (GMT)
They both have it again!!! So both are having the injections again. I seem to fighting a loosing battle with this sodding snuffles - they appear fine for a week and they one has it so has to go back on the jabs and on we go! I tried another one for JImmy - coperex ( i think) she had a bad reaction to it - so am battling on with the baytril.
Kim - July 16, 2009 04:43 PM (GMT)
Oh no, i hope they get better soon! Sending vibes :)
bunny mummy - July 22, 2009 09:16 PM (GMT)
Thanks . Rosie seems to be responding much better with this lot of jabs, jimmyhas it coming from her right nostril still... but i will battle on with it for my 'babies'
PinkBunny - July 22, 2009 09:59 PM (GMT)
oh Jill I'm so sorry :sorry:
You must be sooooooo worried, sending you and your buns lots of  and
Bunnysnug - July 23, 2009 08:33 PM (GMT)
Awww no, get well soon bunnies!
Vickie - July 24, 2009 10:51 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry to hear your babies are poorly again. Ask your vet for septerin, when Pixie had snufles, we started her on a 7 day course of baytril, followed by septerin (pedeatric antibiotic).
Good look hon
bunny mummy - July 27, 2009 10:44 PM (GMT)
Thanks all so much. It is a worry, I don't seem to be able to get them free of it. Jimmy was put on ceporex and it caused her to go into statis. The vet said she would do a nasal swab on them and find a antibiotic to sort it out - but she said that many are not really safe with bunnies! I will ask about the septerin.. I am fighting a sod of a battle with them at the moment. It really worries me that Vickies bun Pixie died of it and I would hate my two to go the same way.
