Title: V.H.D. Jab

bunny mummy - October 4, 2009 09:41 PM (GMT)
Rosie and Jimmy have their v.h.d. jabs tomorrow - bless them!

Why are they ok with the Myxi jabs and the v.h.d. jab give them a reaction?Last year Rosie was not too bad, but poor baby Jims was not her self after the jab?

If it is the cylap vaccine then it can cause horrible reactions, it must be something to do with whats in the vaccine but im not 100% sure what actually causes the problems. There are 2 types of vhd vaccine - cylap and lapinject, lynx had cylap once when he was a baby and it caused no worries but after his relatives suffered horrendous reactions then i decided to use lapinject for the both of them, amber had a scab reaction with lapinject and lynx got nothing but in themselves they were perfectly ok.

Any vaccine can potentially make an animal seem 'sleepy' for 24 hours but im not sure why this would happen with cylap and not myxo, maybe ask your vet and see what they advise? Let us know how they get on :) Let me know if you want to see Fiona's report about the reactions and i will post it again.

Thanks Kim. I was unable to take them on Monday as I went over on my ankle in the garden trying to get Rosie!!

I took them today and the vet ( not my usual vet) he said that it is usually the first innoculation they have that can give them a reaction as it will be the first time they are given the jab that sometimes a reaction can happen ( He gave the anology of when we are at university for the first year and we are given menengitas jab and for the next 24 hours we feel unwell)

Anyway, they both appear to be fine and dandy this time.

:bounce:

I would still like you to send me the report though.

Here is the report:
Cylap report
The photos arent pleasant but shows how severe reactions can be with cylap

I spoke too soon about them not having a reaction, I thought they would be ok as they were both fine when I put them in for the night. However, the next day jimmy would not touch a thing for an hour and half and then she started eating. Poor rosie, well she was very, very poorly - she would not eat a thing. I had to take her to vets. Thankfully, after giving her little bits of thing to eat every half an hour and water - this went on til half seven, she bounced back and thankfully she is fine now.

The locum vet was talking out of the back of his head!

( sorry, I thought you meant you would post them as in royal mail! )

Oh my god, I just looked at the pictures. They are horrific. I am so shocked. I understand why the vet who I saw yesterday checked all her fur. I can see why as he would have been looking for sores etc.

Those pictures are horrific - how those poor bunnies must have suffered.
