In October, 2006, I brought my Grandmother an Amaryllis indoor garden kit. When she passed away in January, 07, the flower was in full bloom. By the time I had finished clearing the house, the flowers had died back and my mum was going to chuck it. I held on to it and over the last 12 months, it's been growing long leaves which die off and regrow. To my amazement the stalk began to get thicker and last week these appeared

You can use an amaryllis year after year can't you? Is that the ones that you keep in a brown paper bag through the non flowering time of the year, and then grow again?

No, it was one you throw in the pot yourself - no bag involved. Been sitting on the window sill amongst my grandmother's cactus x 7 (sorry don't know what the plural is for more than one - cacti (sp)?).

Yeah, when they stop flowering, you bag the bulb and keep it somewhere til i's due to be planted the following year!!!
